Data Entry

After elective lines have been constructed you then need to put the elective lines and other curriculum structures together. You may have a core/home group structured running in combination with elective lines/blocks.

Some of the key timetabling researchers have developed a benchmark XML format for this data entry - click here for details.

To put these curriculum structures together in a timetable you will probably need timetabling software, although, it is possible to do simple timetables in a spreadsheet. Each timetabling program has it own method of entering data. In most cases, this data entry is quite cumbersome and time consuming.

Many of the free programs would be more widely used if the data entry were simplified. As such, I propose a simple Excel spreadsheet method The key is to capture the range curriculum structures (elective lines versus core groups) as specified in the Curriculum Continuum video on the HOME page.
